The "Select Graphic View" dialog allows selection, creation and deletion of graphics views. Actual editing of the view consists of specifying various parameters, such as tiers (for Gantt views), colours, etc, whilst the view is in use. The Select Graphic View dialog is virtualy the same as the one used to select a table. (see Tables)
There are two ways to select a graphic view - select the required view from the list box and if it is not the current view (current view name is displayed above the list box) then the OK and Apply buttons are enabled. The Apply button replaces the graphics view in the current view and has not only the effect of dynamic preview of the graphics view to be applied, but also makes the selected graphics view current. The Cancel button leaves the current view unchanged.
In addition to selecting a different graphics view, this dialog allows you to create new graphic views, or delete existing ones in the same way as in the Select View and Select Table dialog.
To create a new graphics view, select an existing one and press the plus button. The effect is that of a copy action.
To remove a graphics view, select an existing one and press the minus button. Graphics view names shown in bold means that they are either part of some main view or they are defined by default.
Note: Graphics views with their names shown in bold cannot be deleted nor renamed.
When an .mpp file is opened the Gantt charts defined in that file are loaded. These views are termed temporary and their names appear in angled brackets, e.g. <Gantt Chart>. Different .mpp files may contain views, the names of which coincide with the names of views already saved, hence the angled brackets around them.
Upon exit the program discards all current temporary views.
To make a temporary view permanent, it should be renamed, i.e. remove the angle brackets from the front and back of the name and give it a unique name. If there already is a view with the same name the renaming will be refused. For example, if you have a name <Gantt Chart>, and the .mpp file comes from "client X", say, one can rename it to "Gantt Chart - X", or if one knows the version of MS Project that client X use the name "Gantt Chart 2007 client X". If you have more than one client who uses different views under the same name, then rename the view to "X - Gantt Chart" - this way one would have quicker access to views, which client X uses, as the view names are alphabetically sorted.
